About Us

Jake West worked for 17 years as a high school shop teacher and did construction work during the summers. He began doing logging and sawing on the side while he was still teaching and discovered during that time that his true interests were in this industry. He began to think and pray about whether he should quit teaching in order to put more effort into the business. His prayers were answered when he received a large order for custom sawing, and he decided that this seemed to be what God was calling him to do. He retired from teaching in 2015, and he has been running the business full time ever since. Jake's wife, Barb, came up with the name West Branch Lumber because of our close proximity to the west branch of Stony Fork Creek. Jake's son, Ethan, has been working part time for the business and participated in the School-to-Work program throughout high school. Since graduating from Wellsboro High School in 2024, he is the second full-time employee of the company.
